Alleviating hunger and reducing food waste – that’s the heart of Keep US Fed’s mission!

Keep US Fed was developed out of the project of Leadership Montgomery County Class of 2015, with the guidance of the Montgomery County Homeless Coalition and Keep Austin Fed.

Since January 2019, Keep US Fed Montgomery County has operated as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

We believe by connecting excess food with people who need it, we can help solve hunger together.

In the last year and half, KUSF delivered enough food for 1.5 million meals for just $0.04 per meal.

Keep US Fed has recovered enough food to give 956 people 3 meals a day for the last 18 months.

But our impact is about more than the numbers, it is about the lives we impact in our community:

  • The single mom of 3 working two jobs to make ends meet. She relies on the fresh produce and prepared meals each week, providing healthy nutrition for her family and much needed respite from cooking.
  • The elderly woman at a local church pantry living on a fixed income. The fresh fruits and vegetables help stretch her budget and put food in her fridge she could not otherwise afford.
  • The boy celebrating his 7th birthday, whose mom asked if they had a cake at the food pantry they visited. The pantry not only was able to supply a cake to help the family celebrate, but also found a 7th birthday candle to match.
  • The young man in the backseat at a pantry who waited all week for the Chipotle burrito he received in his family’s food box. He could not wait until they even left the parking lot to dig into this much anticipated dinner.
  • The families who were not turned away from several pantries during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic because Keep US Fed was able to bring additional food deliveries to the recipient organizations we serve.
