A Project of Leadership Montgomery County's Class of 2015Volunteer-Based Hunger Relief in Montgomery County, Texas

Each year, the current class of Leadership Montgomery County is asked to select a project that will address a need in the county.  The class project is designed to have a lasting impact on the county while giving class members the opportunity to hone their leadership skills in the process.

The Leadership Montgomery County Class of 2015 forged a relationship with Keep Austin Fed (Keep US Fed) to tackle the issue of food insecurity in our county by creating Keep US Fed – Montgomery County.

Food insecurity is defined by the USDA as a situation of “limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways.”  Our hope is that the program will help solve hunger in our county using perfectly good food that otherwise would have become part of the waste stream.

Located in Montgomery County, Texas USA we are a 100% volunteer based organization and a food run is the core of our volunteer work. We partner with Donor organizations, such as local restaurants, catering companies and event planners. When they have extra food that may otherwise go into the trash, they contact us for a pick up. Our Food Handlers Certified volunteers pick up the food, weigh and sort it and then pack it for safe delivery to our partner Recipients, such as shelters, group homes and food pantries. It’s really that simple.
