A Project of Leadership Montgomery County's Class of 2015Volunteer-Based Hunger Relief in Montgomery County, Texas

Each year, the current class of Leadership Montgomery County is asked to select a project that will address a need in the county.  The class project is designed to have a lasting impact on the county while giving class members the opportunity to hone their leadership skills in the process.

This year, the Leadership Montgomery County Class of 2015 has forged a relationship with Keep Austin Fed (Keep US Fed) to tackle the issue of food insecurity in our county by creating Keep US Fed Montgomery County.

Food insecurity is defined by the USDA as a situation of “limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways.”  Our hope is that the program will help solve hunger in our county using perfectly good food that otherwise would have become part of the waste stream.
