Volunteer-Based Hunger Relief in Montgomery County, TexasA Project of Leadership Montgomery County's Class of 2015

Food insecurity is defined by the USDA as a situation of “limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways.”

Our vision is that Keep US Fed Montgomery County (KUSF) will help solve hunger in our county using perfectly good food that otherwise would have become part of the waste stream.

Located in Montgomery County, Texas USA, KUSF is a 100% volunteer based organization and a “food run” is the core of our volunteer work. We partner with Donor organizations, such as local restaurants, catering companies and event planners. When they have extra food that may otherwise go into the trash, they contact us for a pick up. Our Food Handlers Certified volunteers pick up the food, weigh and sort it and then pack it for safe delivery to our partner Recipients, such as shelters, group homes and food pantries. It’s really that simple.

KUSF was developed out of the project of Leadership Montgomery County Class of 2015, with the guidance of the Montgomery County Homeless Coalition and Keep Austin Fed.

The Montgomery County Homeless Coalition (MCHC) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization providing research, education and informational activities to increase collaboration among agencies and organizations as well as public awareness of the issues and challenges of homelessness and poverty in our community.

Keep Austin Fed (KAF) is a volunteer based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that gathers wholesome and nutritious surplus food from commercial kitchens and distributes it to area charities that serve hungry people in need.

Leadership Montgomery County (LMC) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to developing and enhancing current and future leaders of Montgomery County.  The mission of LMC is to prepare emerging and existing leaders to understand local issues, grow their leadership skills and connect with others to better serve Montgomery County.

KUSF continues under the guidance of the Montgomery County Homeless Coalition, providing donated food and beverages to some of the organizations that MCHC supports and leveraging the guidance and support of their board.
